Applied Bioinformatics

Applied Bioinformatics introduces participants to the computational approaches used in modern biological and biomedical research, with a focus on gene-expression data. The course runs over four weeks, with one 2-hour online session each week, and combines essential theory with hands-on practice using public databases and widely used, web-based bioinformatics tools. No programming experience is required. Following one real research dataset throughout the course, participants learn how to find and evaluate public data, identify genes that change between conditions, and interpret them in terms of pathways and biological function. The course concludes with a collaborative mini-project, in which groups analyse a public dataset and present their findings in the final week.
